Gymbl is MacBreak Weekly Pick

Alex Lindsay’s Pick of the Week:  ” … as just a tripod it’s awesome” .. ”The crazy thing is that THE CASE is better than any case I’ve ever had…” .. “I just have to say at that price I think given the quality of the build its well worth it”

Leo Laporte, Andy Ihnatko & Alex Lindsay –  MacBreak Weekly 255.  Podcast here…

Alex:
So, we were talking about iPhone cases, this is the best iPhone case I’ve ever used and its actually part of a kit. This is the Gymbl, here’s what its designed for. Its designed by YOUBIQ and its the best tripod that’s ever been made. So check this out. You pop this in (slides Gymbl blade into the case) and now what you have is this or like this it suspends your camera over top of the nodal point  or close to it, so its good for pano’s. Their software is a little wonky but with photosynth its amazing…
Leo:
Which is our favorite..
Alex:
…anyway, but as just a tripod its awesome. Now this is the Pro version and here the Pro version number one is black which is much more Pro. Number two this all folds up (legs are folded into grip). Now this is one you can just attach to a tripod so this is what the pro one does. They both have 1/4 20 mounts in them so you can actually screw this to the top of a tripod, so if you want to add it to a tripod now what’s great is if you want a tripod quickly there’s times when trying to attach stuff with your iPhone when you want to put it on a tripod, well now you have a case that is built for it so you leave it in the case so anytime you want to use it you can (slam bam!) slide it right into the notch. The crazy thing is that THE CASE is better than any case I’ve ever had for my iPhone by itself without the tripod and the tripods great I have it in my Scottevest like in one of the pockets, the tripod pocket. Its very very solid and the thing is you can feel the quality of the  case and the tripod build is very very high. When they came out they were a little bit more expensive and allot of us said that’s really too much so now the pro version is I think $99 and the consumer version with out the 1/4×20 and not black is $69 and I just have to say at that price I think given the quality of the build its well worth it and if your looking for a tripod, and you get a little tripod that can attach to a big tripod. I would get the pro one..
Leo:
Cuz its got the thread…
Alex:
…so you can just pop it on to any tripod so now you have a camera mount for any tripod, a nice little tripod and as I said the best iPhone case I have ever had.”
Andy:
So what do you like about the case? assume that someone is never going to use it on a tripod?
Alex:
It is solid, and there’s something about that lip that I really like. Its really comfortable to hold.”
Leo:
I tell you something I like about the case, you can’t get the damned thing off so, I was demonstrating this on the daily GizWiz and we had people in the audience and I didn’t have my iPhone4 so somebody lent me from the audience his iPhone4 and I put it in the case. I had to give him the Gymbl Pro because I couldn’t get the phone out of the case. And so now one of our fine viewers is now the owner of a Gymbl pro.
Alex:
You can’t be afraid of breaking it, it really won’t break. So if they had a battery version of that it would absolutely be the best case.
Andy:
goes on to talk about how manufactures are afraid to make cases with screws. Element cases made from titanium etc…
